about
Maarten Moerkerke (°1969) attended HRITCS film school in Brussels (1987-1988) and a summer directors workshop at USC (1991), Los Angeles. After numerous jobs on film- and television sets and two short films, he started in 1996 as a director on the tv-show 'Wittekerke', the popular Flemish remake of the Australian show 'E-street'. In 2000, he directed the controversial comedy sketch show 'Spike', written by journalist/writer Patrick De Witte and produced by Geert Peeters. After 'Spike', they teamed up in a new production company '3keys productions' and created for the next 12 years tv shows mainly focusing on contemporary comedy (2 more sketch shows, satirical newsmagazines and standup comedy). In 2012 he was asked by producer Dirk Impens (Menuet) to co-direct with Jakob Verbruggen a political thriller series ('Deadline 14/10') that would be broadcast in the build-up to the elections later that year. Jakob dropped off the production to direct BBC's 'The Fall' so unexpectedly Maarten directed all episodes. The show did very well on VTM (the largest commercial network in Flanders) and it was the start of a steady 5-year collaboration with Menuet in which he directed and co-wrote 6 drama series and 1 feature film. The last 2 series ‘13 Commandments’ and ‘Thieves of the wood’ were internationally released through ‘Walter presents’ and ‘Netflix’.
